The Wife of Noble Character (Proverbs 31)
10 [a]A wife of noble character who can find?
She is worth far more than rubies.
11 Her husband has full confidence in her
and lacks nothing of value.
12 She brings him good, not harm,
all the days of her life.
This evening I had the very distinct honor of spending time with an amazing woman of God. Her faith is comparable to none. She loves and cares for her family. She reverences her husband as the God appointed head of her family. She walks in nobility as she honors her family. She is a Wife of Noble Character.
15 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family…
As her husband’s help mate, she goes off to work while it is still night. She does this in order to assist him in the support of their family, with full knowledge that their true provision comes from Jehovah Jireh, who is their provider. It is truly in Him who is the Way maker for their family.
17 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
Not only does this woman go out to work. She is a prayer warrior. She is a nurturer. She is a creative genius. She writes to bring life to her stories. She sings as David sung to praise the Lord, for He is worthy to be praised. She is obedient to the will of God in her life. He said, “Truly I tell you, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.” (Matthew 8:10) With regard to her, I say, I have not met anyone in my life time with such great faith.
20 She opens her arms to the poor
and extends her hands to the needy.
When my family was in need, she thought not of herself, but to bless me. She does not walk in “woe is me,” but in how can I be a blessing to those in need. She lives not by bread alone but the Word of God, and this Word is fed into the hearts and minds of her children. They sit in worship of the sovereignty of the LORD lifting others up who are in need.
25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
she can laugh at the days to come.
Tonight we sat and laughed about the days to come. And, in what we will wear, but as I looked at her, all I saw was the glory of the Lord surrounding her. Her story is about going from rags to riches, but as the tears streamed down my face, all I could see was this beautiful woman adorned in the finest because she walks, talks, and glows with the light of the Lord upon her.
26 She speaks with wisdom,
and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household
and does not eat the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her:
29 “Many women do noble things,
but you surpass them all.”
30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done,
and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
When I first read the Wife of Noble Character many years ago, my first thought was, this woman does not exist. I’ve always aspired to be not her, exactly, but a close facsimile thereof. However, today, I stand corrected, as I have had the honor of meeting this very remarkable woman of Noble Character. I honor you my sister, my friend, because you are truly a wife amongst wives, and a friend amongst friends, and I am thankful to know you. I am also thankful that GOD has allowed our paths to cross to be a blessing to one another. I, too, call you blessed.
I’m thankful that GOD has allowed us to work together as we travel on this Pathway to Spiritual Rebirth. I love you, my Sister.
